Frequently Asked Questions

We consider ourselves balanced trainers, which means we are educated in every training method, and we tailor our training to each individual dog. We are very often the last stop for people who have been to multiple trainers and have discovered that their training approaches (such as Bribery, Dominance, or just managing a problem) are not working.

Our Approach is constantly changing. We are always staying up to date on the latest advancements in the dog training world, and we view each dog on a case-by-case basis. Very often, when training two dogs from the same household, we will train them in very different ways. We are also very big on socialization and confidence building, and we have a variety of methods that we utilize to do so.

Here is the Important Part…

We aren’t just training your dog. We will train you too. We are very committed to making sure that we properly train every owner just as well as we have trained their dog. We stand by our dogs, and we try to make sure every owner is as educated as possible on their dog. We try to have fun with owners as well. Dog training is a fun experience, and we want you to be just as excited as we are about your dog’s future!

This is why the evaluation is so important and required. We are experts in reading and understanding your dog. Often, we can see minor issues that others may not even notice. Using this knowledge, we will steer you towards what would be best for you and your dog. In many cases, we only accept a dog into a specific training program. If multiple options are suitable for the best outcome for the dog, we leave the choice of training method up to the owner. Regardless of the breed, no dog becomes naturally obedient and ready for all social situations without consistent training done well. There are advantages/disadvantages to each route.

Our programs vary in price depending on where your dog is currently. The only way that we can give you an accurate quote is by evaluating your dog during our free Evaluation. Our signature Day-Train Program is $2,000 but not every dog is a great fit.

There is a discount for paying up front, however we offer In-House Financing. We also offer a financing program through Affirm that is interest free for 6 months with terms extending up to 3 years.

The training tools that we use vary based on your dog’s individual needs. For all our programs, we use positive reinforcement or drive training depending on what motivates your dog.

For adult Basic and Advanced Obedience, we introduce the pinch collar to further communication. At the end of Advanced Obedience, we begin to incorporate the E-collar to achieve off-leash obedience.

Training tools are just that, tools; and we never want our pets to be reliant on a tool or leash to get them to listen. This is the ultimate aim of obedience training; to be able to ween these tools out over time.

Why do you use Prong Collars?

Believe it or not, dogs speak a certain language. It’s a language that is taught from Day 1 and it is much more effective than any “human” language. It’s Body Language! When used with the correct body language, we are able to communicate the behaviors you desire out of your dog through proper training with a pinch collar.

From a very early age, your dog learns manners from mama dog when she gently cradles and bites the neck of her puppies. She does not mean any harm to her puppies as it is just simply a method of communication that conveys important information to her puppies. Just like mama dog, we use pinch collars to build off this language that your dog already knows. Using gentle and calculated pressure, we can convey our expectations to your dog.

When used properly, pinch collars have been proven to be one of the least physically demanding, most effective, most humane, and safest tools that you can buy. Most tools mask your dog’s behaviors, but pinch collars provide communication that allows us to teach your dog preferred behaviors.

Why do you use E-Collars?

We use E-Collars for all the same reasons that we use pinch collars. E-Collars can be even better though since they allow you to have control of your dog off-leash from half of a mile away, which gives you the ability to include your dog in more family activities than ever before.

Many trainers heavily rely upon E-Collars from Day 1. Our method is different.

We don’t utilize them until the very end of Advanced Obedience. We spend weeks of hard work to lead up to the introduction of the E-Collar. When it is time to introduce the E-Collar, your dog has a complete understanding of what is expected of them, which makes the introduction a lot less stressful for your dog.

We DO NOT “shock” your dog!

There is a common misconception is that E-Collars “shock” or “zap” dogs. Modern E-Collar systems are not like a traditional “shock collar.” Rather than administering an electric shock, E-Collars administer a medical grade stimulation that works similarly to a TENS unit that is used in human physical therapy. We welcome owners to feel the stimulation level for themselves, and often owners discover that they can barely even feel it in the first place.

We strongly recommend, and prefer, to do an in-person evaluation. However, if you live 2+ hours away from Greenville, we can make an exception and do the evaluation over zoom instead. Keep in mind that video conference evaluations are not guaranteed, and plans can change after meeting your dog if a trainer notices something that was not noticed before. We ask that you be as open and honest as possible during the e-evaluation to ensure that this doesn’t happen to you.

We have never met a dog that we could not work with or help. Keep in mind though that dog training is a team effort, and the best trained dogs come when owners are dedicated and diligent at working with their dogs and following your trainer’s advice.
